Cary Wolinsky

Cary Wolinsky began working as a news and magazine photographer for the Boston Globe in 1968 while completing a degree in journalism at Boston University's School of Communications. By 1972, he was providing freelance photo stories to many national magazines, including Natural History, National Geographic, Smithsonian, Newsweek and International Wildlife.

He lives Norwell, Massachusetts.

About the Photographs

I shoot a lot of pictures. Let's say, on average, 30,000 every year. Multiply that by the nearly 30 years I've been photographing for National Geographic Magazine and the number gets up around a million. What happens to all those images? Most of them get put in plastic boxes which are stacked on the groaning shelves in my office. A few thousand of the best are sent off each year to my friends at Stock Boston and to other stock photography houses in Europe and Asia. They license the images to editorial and commercial publishers around the world.
