It is a good habit to repair the permissions on your hard disk on a monthly basis. To do this, go to the utilities folder and launch Disk Utilities. Select your startup disk and click the “Repair Disk Permissions” button. |

When using the pen tool in photoshop, turn on “Rubber Band.” It is turned on in various ways depending on the version of Photoshop you are using. In Photoshop CS, go to the options bar and click on the down arrow at the right of the shape options. Once you have turned this on, you will find drawing shapes and creating clipping paths much easier. |

If you need to edit a layer mask and you would like to see the mask displayed as a quick mask, simply press the “\” key. This will show your layer mask over your image and all painting tools can be used to edit the mask. Simply pressing the “\” key again turns the mask view off. |

In the Xpress measurement pallet, you can perform mathematical calculations. Use + - * / to add, subtract, multiply and divide. If for example you needed to add 1/8 inch to a rectangle's width, you can simply type “+.125” after the width in the measurement pallet and press return or enter. |

You can set a tab that aligns to the right edge of the text box by holding the option key when pressing the tab key. |

To delete any selected item, regardless of the currently selected tool, press Command K (kill). Press Command Option Shift K to delete with a surprise. |

When doing any type of tone or color correction in Photoshop, always use an adjustment layer. This allows you to go back and make a further correction. Adjustment layers can be added by pressing the half moon icon located at the bottom of the layer pallet. |

To quickly switch between applications, press the TAB key while holding the COMMAND key down. This will bring up a large dock like display. Pressing the tab will cycle through the open applications. Adding the shift key will step you through in reverse. Pressing Q will quit the selected application. |

Pressing Command Option Shift F will fit a picture to a picture box. The picture will retain its proportions. Omit the Option key and the picture will be forced to fit the box even it it is non-proportional. Pressing the < and > keys while holding Command Option Shift down will decrease or increase a graphic in 5% increments, Command Option M will center an image in in it's box. And lastly, dragging a picture box or text box handles while pressing Command Option Shift will cause the contents to be stretched. |
